How Kuman Pictures got its name

Amir Muhammad is a publisher, writer and now movie producer. His documentaries have been shown in film festivals around the world, and two of them were banned during Malaysia Lama. He founded Matahari Books in 2007 and Buku Fixi in 2011. His latest company is Kuman Pictures in 2018. His talk is about the inspiration and influences behind Kuman Pictures

Pang is a Malaysian arts consultant, activist, curator, organiser, photographer and writer. Presently Pang is the director of art & activism bazaar Art For Grabs. In 2008, together with fellow activists and artists, he co-founded sexuality rights festival Seksualiti Merdeka in Malaysia. It was banned by the police in 2011. Under the Chevening Scholarship, Pang graduated in 2013 with an MA in Gender, Sexuality & Culture from Birkbeck, University of London. He remains active in speaking on LGBT issues. He has presented his manifesto We Are The Rainbow and its accompanying interactive performance Languages of The Rainbow in Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, and East Timor. His talk talks about censorship as an LGBTQ activist in Malaysia

Legal journalism and its impact to the public

A news writer with a bad sense of humour and questionable degree of empathy, Qishin Tariq spent four years with the Star newspaper's court beat, making light reading and terrible headlines of daily crime news and the occasional landmark case. He now writes for technology but occasionally goes back to the courtrooms for specific cases, most recently the corruption trial of Pekan MP Najib Razak. A fan of justice, his favourite brand is DC's Justice League Unlimited, back when it was on Cartoon Network. His talk is about legal journalism and its impact to the public

Walls and Spoken Word Poetry

Melizarani T. Selva is a spoken word poet, showrunner, educator and co-curator of George Town Literary Festival 2018. To date, she has performed in six countries and represented Malaysia at the prestigious Commonwealth People's Forum in London and the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival. Her notable performances include, TEDxGateway in Mumbai and Ubud Writers and Readers Festival. Her first book titled ‘Taboo’ made Top 10 Best-Seller List on Malaysia’s No.1 Online Bookstore (MPH). To date, her poems have been translated in French by Éditions Jentayu and in Bahasa Malaysia by Malaysia’s National Institute of Language and Literature. Presently, she runs Kuala Lumpur's monthly poetry open mic, ’If Walls Could Talk’, a bilingual poetry slam,‘Slamokrasi’ and teaches performance poetry at international and national schools. This presentation is about Walls, also a monthly spoken word poetry event.
