Past London Event: VOL 15

Large wide volume 2015 20 1

VOL 15

June 12, 2017
@ Proud East

Join us for a classic PechaKucha night at Proud East - Tickets available at here!

For Vol. 15 of the London PechaKucha team are collaborating with Proud East on Regents Canal in Haggerston to bring you a classic PechaKucha evening with 7 talks from 7 inspiring speakers with plenty of Japanese beer flowing and other delicious treats at the ready.

Why does this collab work so well?! Well, Proud East are currently hosting Pop Up Japan - which fuses Tokyo’s dynamic cultural hub with century old customs. And with very concept of PechaKucha nights coming from Superdeluxe in Tokyo - how could we resist?!

Exactly what is PechaKucha 20x20? PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images.

What kind of things do people talk about? Literally anything that people think worth sharing including a personal story, an idea, a project, a passion, interesting snaps and experiences from your last adventure, these are just a few examples.

PechaKucha presentations uncover the unexpected -- unexpected talent, unexpected ideas. Some PechaKuchas tell great stories about a project or a trip. Some are incredibly personal, some are incredibly funny, but all are very different, and they turn each PechaKucha event into “a box of chocolates”.

365 Postcards

@ VOL 15 ON JUN 12, 2017

" I have a kinda strange hobby. I had it since 2007..."

In "365 Postcards" from PechaKucha Night London Vol. 15,  Andy Hoang spoke about Mailart365 - Mailart (a new term to you we assume) is a term which describes a piece of artwork made with the intention of sending it somewhere in the post. 365 is the number of days in a year.

Mailart 365 is a year-long project starting on December 1st, 2010, to make and send a piece of art in the post every day for a year. Artists attempt to make and send 365 pieces in the post, to whoever they please and while doing so, they’re posting up their efforts right here on Mailart 365.

Since the start of the project over 10,000 pieces of mailart have been made and sent out and new pieces are being made every day.

British Brutalist Architecture

@ VOL 15 ON JUN 12, 2017

"We've come so far in our taste and appreciation for these buildings that you can buy models of them."

In British Brutalist Architecture from PechaKucha Night London Vol. 15Jon Wright shares his love of Brutalist Architecture and in particular his love of the examples of this severe form of art in Britain.

Jon's PechaKucha helps to get rid of a few pervasive myths about Brutalism.

He also shows you what buildings we've lost (he would describe this as a disaster!), and how we saved the ones we do have with the meta-narrative being the cyclical nature of popular architectural taste and public opinion, how that is formed and how it manifests itself in popular culture.
