Past Silver Spring Event: VOL 6

@ Pyramid Atlantic

In 1991, the US was experiencing the highest rate of teen pregnancy in history. NBA star and Olympian, Ervin "Magic" Johnson announced he had AIDs, and Queen frontman, Freddy Mercury, passed from the disease. The social conditions in that year led to a hip hop group called Salt-N-Pepa to write a song entitled, "Let's Talk About Sex." As the title suggests, the song encouraged an open discussion about sex in order to spread awareness of the realities and risks related to the topic. Since 1991, both teenage pregnancy rates, as well as AIDs rates have steadily declined.

For PechaKucha Silver Spring: Volume 6, we will be having Salt-N-Pepa performing "Let's Talk About Sex". Just kidding. We're going to be a bit more risque than our previous themes to broaden our community conversation about important aspects of life. While the theme is potentially a bit more controversial, we will be having tasteful, adult presentations on subjects related to sex. Expect discussions about gender identity, animal reproduction, sexual health and many other great topics. That being said, we strongly encourage you to leave the kids at home.

Buy tickets for $15 through EventBrite. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

What to expect:

Come to Pyramid Atlantic on Friday, February 12, 2015 from 7-9PM. Spend the first ~20 minutes chatting in the Pyramid Atlantic art gallery with some tunes, art exhibits, light fare and social lubricant, all included in your ticket price. Around 7:20PM, we'll have the first half of presenters. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be full of awe. Intermission. We'll have the second half of presenters where you'll go through a similar roller coaster of emotion as before. Afterwards, hang out and chat.

We strongly suggest only those 18+ to attend.

Best parking option: Bonifant-Dixon Garage - Free after 7PM
