"Created from driftwood collected over time, mixed with carved toys I made for my son with my grandfather’s tools, I feel like a kid having fun again.”
Leith MacDonald spent six summers and a winter working on Monhegan. Years after moving off the island, Monhegan has resurfaced like a great whale in Leith’s art making practice. In "Little Maine Sculptures" from PechaKucha Night Monhegan Vol. 1, MacDonald explains how these pieces are inspired by years of memories and dreams of a place with which long ago he fell in love.
This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Thursday, November 12th, 2015.
Bruce Kornbluth splits his time between Monhegan and Portland, ME. He is an abstract painter, and using photographs of his inspirations alongside his work, explains how what he sees and what he paints intersect.
Mandy Metrano is a certified art teacher and is the new teacher at the Monhegan School. She has started a new arts program for the Monhegan School called the Monhegan School Youth Arts Initiative, bringing professional artists in a variety of disciplines to the Monhegan School throughout the school year. Her presentation takes on her journey from student to traevling musician to her present roll at the Monhegan School.
Lisa Jahn-Clough is an author and illustrator of over twenty books for children and young adults. She shares with us her path to becoming an illustrator of Children's books, including a look at her process and inspirations.
