Parallels: Innovation and Seduction

@ VOL 13 ON JUL 15, 2015

"Innovations is about originality in the sense of taking a new perspective."

Philipp Kristian Dieköner talks about Innovation from its most attractive sides. Through analyzing its attributes, he shows how crucial seduction is in the process of creating new ideas. Just as Seduction, Innovation is intimately connected to curiosity, improvisation, originality, courage, danger, trust, challenge. Playful and sudden, creativity is not defined as a skill, but like an experience - something that can happen to anybody who is open to it.

Forever in an Instant!

@ VOL 13 ON JUL 15, 2015

"Anyone facing adversity can experience some form of healing or solace from something as seemingly insignificant as the gift of an instant photo."

In Forever in an Instant from PechaKucha Night Singapore Vol. 13, photographer Frederick Chen shares his experience of working with Photohoku, a photo-giving volunteer initiative that was born in response to the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Through the act of giving photos, rather than taking photos, Frederick explains how photography has the power to restore hope for people in need, giving them something often overlooked in other relief efforts. In a final call-to-action, Frederick challenges us to take up the cause, putting forward the notion that the ways that photo-giving can make a difference in people's lives is only limited by our imaginations.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on Thursday, September 24th, 2015.

Favorite Medium

@ VOL 13 ON JUL 15, 2015

"What are you doing there? It's boring! -But no, look at this, it's so beautiful!"

Jon Siegel
shares his passion for photography. He started to use his camera to appreciate his daily life when he lived in Tokyo and has carried it on after moving to Singapore, as well. Through his photos, he turns ordinary reality into a deeper and intimate personal experience that enables him to tell a story and explore the details of places and people. Photography indeed has also brought him great friendships. It's enough to take a lunch break to start looking deeper into what's under our eyes everyday.
