VOL 22

September 15, 2015
@ The Tin Music & Arts, Canal Basin Vaults

For this edition, we'll be delving into language and what it means to communicate. Our chosen title is "Speak 'n' Spell" - what might that mean for you?

What are the origins of language? How do babies learn to talk? What are the connections between speech and writing? How can humans communicate with technology and vice versa? Translation? Linguistics? Psycholinguistics? Metalinguistics? Paralinguistics?

If you'd like to share your Speak 'n' Spell inspired PK with us in 20 slides, each for 20 seconds -  please get in touch!

From Speaking to Spelling

@ VOL 22 ON SEP 15, 2015

“You need to sing nursery rhymes, play I spy, make up stories and read books together; What children know about their spoken language affects how quickly they learn to read or write”

In From Speaking to Spelling from PechaKucha Night Coventry’s 22nd Volume, Researcher Helen Breadmore speaks of the interconnectedness between spoken and written language. In young children, because the learning process typically undergoes a particular pattern, one can learn a lot from the pattern of their mistakes.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Monday, February 1, 2016.
