Portland’s Archetype: Where Do You Stop the Clock?

@ VOL 30 ON FEB 20, 2015

At age eight when Hannah Holmes and her sister wished their bedrooms were joined, her father produced a sledge hammer and ax, and opened a window through which to throw the offending wall. Later, as a world-traveling science writer, she discovered that humanity had invented far stranger ways of fending off the elements. Now a realtor, she studies firsthand the structures we erect between ourselves and Nature; and the complex relationships we nurture with those walls.

The Story and The Silence

@ VOL 30 ON FEB 20, 2015

"I went to college, got a BFA in photography, and swore that I would never, ever, shoot weddings."

In The Story and The Silence from PechaKucha Night Portland Maine Vol. 30, Andree Kehn shares her work as wedding photographer who specializes in outrageous matrimonies of non-traditional couples. Her eclectic background informs the way she sees the world around her.  Her search for connection in the lonely life of creative-arts self-employment has driven her to work on a personal project of underwater fine art portraits, in which she explores themes of communication and story.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on June 26th, 2017.
