We have an exciting line up for our first PKN of 2014! Our exuberant list of presenters includes: artist Jacqueline Spedding chatting about Cascade Artist Studios in Lawson, Billy Gruner will be telling us all about his exciting open house days as part of Modern Art Projects, we are joined by Xandro Lombardi who will be telling us about what he does as a graphic designer and educationalist, Amanda Horner will be sharing her knowledge of essential essences, Noel Burgess will be sharing his passion for 1980’s dance music (and we are hoping he’ll throw a few shapes himself). Returning for our first edition is Karen Vernon who is presenting on Iconic Film Make-up (before CGI) whilst Kayo Yokoyama is also returning to chat about her passion for all things Pride and Prejudice!

Cascade Artist Studio

"The work in the studio is very varied and I think that reflects the different artists."

In Cascade Artist Studio from PechaKucha Night Blue Mountain Vol. 9, Artist Jacqueline Spedding introduces the warehouse she and a friend recently transformed into a working studio space in 2012. Cascade Studio in Blue Mountains hosts a range of talented artists- the most recent visiting artist came from South Korea.

Ideas for Graphic Design Education in the Blue Mountains

Xandro Lombardi discusses his role as a graphic design artist and educator. Australia is home to some of the world's top universities, but as Xandro points out, there is nothing between Sydney and Bathurst. Xandro proposes initiating a destination for graphic design education in the Blue Mountains, which would spark growth and cultural diversity.

Zeb Olsen shares her life as an artist, in between teaching, working in a shop, and mothering a daughter. From being a guitarist in a band to a sculptor to a painter, Zeb's path has taken her all around Australia and she finds inspiration everywhere she goes.

MAP: Art, Architecture and Being Social

Last year, Billy Gruner began an exhibition project with some friends called Modern Art Projects (MAP). The exhibitions were placed in simple domestic environments, exploring the radical architectural design of the 1950s and 60s. This idea evolved into exhibtions held in sometimes little-known architectural treasures around the area, with performance art pieces and more.

Hayley West introduces the discussion group Death Cafe: where people can talk about death in a relaxed and confidential environment and eat cake too! There is rarely discussion about post-death plans, and Hayley encourages people to think about all post-life possibilities, which she has learned from Death Cafe talks.

Tiny Tim - Tiptoeing Through a Lifetime

Lowell Tarling shares a shortened biography of Tiny Tim, the American ukulele-playing singer. Lowell shares screen prints, drawings and old photographs capturing the many faces and voices of the musician. You can further learn about the adventures of Tiny Tim through Lowell's biography.

Where is the Romance?

Artist Kayo Yokoyama discuess her investigation of Jane Austen's romance novel Pride & Prejudice. She considers what has happened to the traditional sense of romance and where all of the Mr. Darcy's have gone. However, she proposes that maybe the romance is still present today, just in different forms.

Vibrational Essences

Amanda Horner shares some of her extensive knowledge on the magic of essences, which can be made out of anything and act on the body as a whole- mind, body and spirit. Along with water, she speaks about crystal and quart essences and the essences of animals.
