Bead Town

Stephan Wanger is a self-taught artist who channels his creative energy into assembling dazzling mosaics using recycled Mardi Gras beads. Working in a photo-realistic style, Stephan recreates iconic Louisiana images to make the innate beauty and unique culture of this area available to the world. He works to inspire Louisiana citizens of all ages to recycle and to create. This labor of love is called Bead Town. Check out some of his work at Galeria Alegria.

It is a project through Common Ground Relief, a local organization to bring awareness to restore and preserve regional wetlands.

Designer, artist, and Adjunct Professor at Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture, LSU, Justine Holzman shares a few of her projects and collaborations and discusses the detailed processes behind them. Her interest centers around the relationship between clay and landscape and the similar processes used to sculpt and modify both. Some of Justine’s work can been seen at PALEOSOL and 7b7d.

Maker Krewe

"I didn't teach her how to do it, another student had taught her how to do it who'd been to Maker Krewe and learned it from somebody else."

In Marker Krewe from PechaKucha New Orleans Vol. 12, Oskie Creech shares over eleven years of experience teaching in classrooms with what he views as overly structured schooldays. In 2009, he created summer camps allowing children the autonomy to create their own schedules. Oskie created Maker Krewe to provide the time, tools, expertise and community support that kids need in order to grow as creative problem solvers.
