2013 Tohoku Artist Caravan

In April of 2013, the Tohoku Artist Caravan project will bring artists and musicians from all over Japan to gather in Karakuwa, Kesennuma, to create public art that will help revitalize a community devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The initial installations will be completed over a three-day period, culminating in an opening party featuring a an impressive array or renowned musicians. (in English and Japanese)

In "Photohoku" from PechKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 101, photographers Brian Scott Peterson and Yuko Yoshikawa introduce the "Photohoku" project, which involves bringing photographers to the Tohoku region to help create new photo memories for those who were affected by the 2011 earthquake/tsunami.

Modern Touch DJing

The availability of touch interfaces for DJing has exponentially increased along with the obiquitous influence of smartphones and tablets. But many of these "modern" interfaces stick to applying dated interaction patterns that are unfitting for this new type of interface. In this presentation, Lasse Laursen talks about where he believes the strength of mixing using touch interfaces lie, along with a sneak peak at his own work-in-progress interface.

Tale of the Lucky Cat

Jake Adelstein is a veteran journalist in Japan known for covering crime and the underground world, but in this presentation, he talks pussy. By pussy, we of course mean the very traditional tale of a lucky cat, one that has been associated with temples around the country -- his story focuses on one temple in particular.

Tokyo Graphic Recorder

Team Kenchiku Taisou returns to the PKN stage -- watch its first presentation here -- with an update on its "architectural gymnastics" activities around the world. Although you can't see it, presenter Motoko Tanaka got the entire crowd to do a stretch in the shape of Tokyo Tower! (in Japanese, with English on the images)

The way we interact in the digital world is changing. These changes have had a great effect on the way we live and in how we consume media. Visualization has played a great part in these changes and that has led to very interesting new tools. Thomas Robbjens' presentation is about these tools, as well as tools to come.

Rapid Prototyping
