A Quest for Adventure

@ VOL 1 ON NOV 09, 2009

Alastair Humphreys is one incredible person. He has cycled around the world (it took him 4 years), raced a yacht across the Atlantic Ocean, canoed 500 miles down the Yukon River, and walked the length of the holy Kaveri river in India. He also ran the Marathon des Sables (finishing as one of the ten fastest Brits despite breaking his foot during the race), and rowed to France with Major Phil Packer -- a soldier paralysed in Iraq.

"Presentation of the Day" on June 15, 2013.

Laser Love

@ VOL 1 ON NOV 09, 2009

In "Laser Love" from PechaKucha Night London Vol. 1, Moritz Waldemeyer wows us with his amazing designs, including a jacket for Bono for a U2 concert tour and a coffee-laser dancing table for Wallpaper.

Widely recognized as one of the most innovative and exciting designers of his generation, Waldemeyer, aged 34, was born in East Germany. He moved to London thirteen years ago where he trained as an engineer at Kings College and completed his Master's degree in 2001. Since then, he has collaborated with many of the world’s top architects and fashion designers including Ron Arad, Zaha Hadid and Hussein Chalayan. His work is a fusion of technology, art, fashion, and design.

Design Against Crime

@ VOL 1 ON NOV 09, 2009

Can the design of shop furniture, products, packaging, retail space large and small, display areas, security procedures, retail management and the myriad of other factors in this environment – even the experience of shopping itself – reduce shoplifting and improve ambiance without turning a small newsagent or a large department store into Alcatraz?

Wayward plants...

@ VOL 1 ON NOV 09, 2009

Kicking off a new series of PechaKucha Nights in London... The Wayward Plant Registry is a project of social exchange and botanical desire. A Wayward Plant, commonly referred to as a weed, is one growing where it is not wanted. They may be non-native, unsightly, invasive, high-maintenance, surplus or withering, and so are uprooted and abandoned, pulled from the earth (or pot!) as urban castaways. But wayward plants, whether common weeds, domestic breeds or rare botanical specimens, are truly in the eye of the beholder. The Wayward Plant Registry sets up Halfway Homes for these unwanted plants, and works to bring out the full potential of their beauty and meaning. The Registry considers systems of exchange, the personification of plant-life, the human stories revealed through plant migrations, and the nature of botanical desire. Know of a wayward plant? Wish to be a halfway home? Please contact:
