oin us on Wednesday, July 10, 7PM at Komitas Museum, for PechaKucha Yerevan Night Vol. 32, organized in partnership with Galaxy Group of Companies. We will hear from 10 exciting speakers under the trademarked 20 slides x 20 seconds format, followed by a discussion session.

Do people design spaces, or does space design the people? How do we transform space into meaningful place? And how different is this human-centric approach from what we popularly perceive as architecture? These are some of the questions we will be discussing during the upcoming PechaKucha Yerevan Night!

Gradarak Project

During this time, Arusik Zeynalyan noticed the poor conditions of the rural children’s libraries. Together with a friend, repat architect from Moscow, Hayk Zalibekyan, they have started “Gradarak” NGO (meaning ‘Bookshelf’), crowdfunding and transforming these poor remote libraries into cutting-edge spaces. They believe that by transforming the environment where children study, can hugely affect their love for knowledge and learning.

In summer of 2017, Anush Kocharyan founded "Balcony" project: it is a 1sqm balcony in her flat at one of the residential buildings of Baghramyan street. This balcony is the only one in the neighborhood, which has preserved its very initial architectural look. Every week Anush hosts a guest: artists, directors, politicians, public figures, activists... An interesting case of space shaping the concept of a long-term storytelling project.

Exhibition as a public space

Nairi Khachadourian will speak under presentation title “The exhibition: narrative, space, public”. She will be discussing the role of architecture (both aesthetically and structurally) when curating an exhibition, how the narrative of each exhibition should be highlighted through its architecture and how an exhibition can be regarded as both a space invention and a space intervention.

NetZero houses: How we can adopt forward thinking building construction

Lusine Ghushchyan will present under the title“NetZero houses: How we can adopt forward-thinking building construction”. 

The growing concerns about rising energy prices, energy independence and the impact of climate change show buildings to be as the primary energy consumer in Armenia. This fact emphasizes the importance of targeting building use as key to decreasing the nation’s energy consumption. Currently, there are a small number of NetZero buildings in the world and Armenia has a huge potential to adopt these strategies to decrease energy use and reduce dependence on fossil fuel.

She underlines the importance of co-design, a principle which includes citizens as decision-makers, from the very start of any urban development project.

RE: social music project

RE: is a social music project by belived Armenian ethnic folk & jazz musician Miqayel Voskanyan. By performing experimental acoustic music at abandoned public spaces of architectural importance, Miqayel raises public awareness on the importance of preservation and further development of these places.
