What have we done to get to the point where we cannot walk peacefully around the city? We need a pedestrian revolution. In this presentation Jenai Hooke reveals the magic of indigo and her fascination with the ancient art of botanical dyeing.
Jenai is a maker and an alchemist, working from her bushland studio in Eudlo where she can be found doing all kinds of amazing things from boiling up pots of Bunya husks to turn into golden silk, to collecting mud from a nearby creek to paint symbols on fabric. Jenai has travelled far and to study with the natural dye masters of Japan, France, Mexico and the USA, bringing home new knowledge to pass on to the participants of her many workshop in Australia and New Zealand. She founded the Sunshine Coast Natural Dyers Interest Group (SCNDIG) in 2015 and members share, learn, and develop their skills as dyers and artists.
