We are super excited to announce the return of PechaKucha Night Vientiane on Thursday, March 31 from 6pm upstairs at Coco & Co Cafe (next to Le Trio Coffee, on Setthathirath Rd). 

Entry is 20,000 kip at the door, and Coco & Co will have drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available for purchase. 

Join us for a fun and informal evening as we listen to ideas, stories, journeys and much more, as told by 9 of our city's creative, innovative and talented residents in the PechaKucha 20x20 format - showing 20 images, each for 20 seconds.

Janna Gibson is an American living in Vientiane who believes that "framing a shot that focuses on beauty within a culture has helped positively shape my perspective." She shares her exploration of iPhone photography, the social media outlets used for sharing her stories, and #RealLaosProject, the current photography project she's working on. She urges us to see the beauty that is around us.

Mapping Laos

Matthias Bethke talks about mapping Laos through the OpenStreetMap project. While living in the Galapagos islands, he discovered the OpenStreetMap project as a way to leave the boring parts to computers and actually do some exciting things with maps. Since then he has been officially addicted and is now trying to improve the map coverage of Laos.

My Little Discovery

Vannaphone, known as "Kino" to most, is a Lao journalist and documentary filmmaker with a mission to develop socially responsible coverage of life in her country and region. In her presentation ‘My Little Discovery’ Kino will share some experiences and stories from her early days as a journalist.

Tessa Bunney is an accomplished photographer based in Vientiane, Laos who is fascinated by the intricacies of rural life. For her PechaKucha presentation she shares 20 of her favourite portraits from the last 15 years, during which she has met and photographed a diverse range of people both close to her home in rural North Yorkshire (UK) and around the world.

She will discuss the reasons why (and why not) to publish, and give advice on how (and how not) to do so. Whether yours is a novel, a biography, a book of visuals, or something else entirely, she’ll help you decide whether in you is where that book should stay.

In Laos, Coffee and The Little House from PechaKucha Night Vientiane - Vol. 2Yoko Matsushima, who has lived in Laos for 16 years and is the owner of The Little House café in Ban Simuang, Vientiane, talks about her work as a cafe owner, the relationships she has built with the farmers who produce the coffee beans, her staff who keep the cafe going, and her customers. She hopes for a future where people can continue to drink good Lao coffee.

Micka Perier is a photographer and the owner of Le Trio Coffee in Vientiane, Laos. He shares a personal visual essay: "I chose to present a visual essay trying to touch this je-ne-sais-quoi that we barely dare to face... A travel though some pictures just to express what I find obvious beyond the appearences, behind some kind of Beauty sometimes."
