Sandro Masai graduated from Aalborg University Art & Technology in 2012, and has worked as an artist, dancer, performer and choreographer. As part of a larger art project, BUNKERLOVE, on the sandy Danish westcoast beaches he’s working with augmented reality, so people in the audience can use their smart or iphones to be part of the project with their own ideas and share them with others.

Augmented Reality (AR) is typically defined as a layering of digital information over the physical world as experienced through a smartphone, tablet, or digital eyewear. AR is quickly advancing into a new phase of contextually rich personalized experiences that combine sensors, wearable computing, big data, machine-learning, and artificial intelligence. This second wave of AR will surpass novelty and extend our human capacities to better understand and experience our world in new meaningful ways. AR is no longer about technology, it’s about living in the real world and creating meaningful experiences that are human-centred. How do we want to live in and with AR, and how will it shape our lives?

"We are trying to mix paper and digital"
In Augmented Paper from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 137, Julie Stephen Chheng and Thomas Pons share their recent art collaboration. Stephen Chheng is a graphic designer and Pons, an animation director. They work on projects mixing paper, book design and new technology. In Japan, they work on a project called Uramado: windows in augmented reality.

Kirsty Keatch is a sound artist and creative programmer exploring the design of playful interactive sound in game systems, including AR and VR. Her work seamlessly integrates the dark arts of mobile technology with lighter creative contexts to widen people’s access to experiences with sound in installations in gallery spaces and mobile games.
Having completed a Masters in Sound Design by research at Edinburgh University, she worked with assistive music technology company, Skoogmusic. She had her kinetic sound installation, Katakata, curated at the Edinburgh International Science Festival in the National Museum of Scotland. Her recent AR game, Fit In, has been interpreted as a VR Party Game and been played at Arcadia in Dundee and V&A Friday Late in London.

Mehwish Abid is an architect, academic and a published researcher. She runs her own practice [(Studio of architecture, research & design (S A R D)].Her research focusses on the relationship amid philosophical moorings of modernism, authenticity (being) and of urbanism/urban form. The project that will be presented envisioned to engage the viewer, ignite awareness and build a sense of consciousness towards experience, heritage and context. The immersive, interactive and inclusive character of the installation enabled the viewer to use various senses from sound, sight and cognition.

Jason Bruges Studio is internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, interventions and ground breaking artworks. They use a high-tech mixed-media palette to explore spectacle, time-based interventions and dynamic spatial experiences that connect people with their environment. Considered a pioneer of the hybrid in-between space between art, architecture and technology, Jason has subsequently paved the way for a new genre of design studios, artists and designer-makers.
The team have recently finished working on a number of high-profile projects including an epic installation for Hull UK City of Culture, in which over 20 industrial robots performed choreographies with light. Earlier this year they revealed three immersive installations for the Life in the Dark exhibition at the Natural History Museum and some of their most celebrated pieces include a site-specific light installation based in the main nave of York Minster and an immersive artwork in Denmark that represents 12 million migratory birds and their unique habitat.
In 2002 Jason set up his own practice and now works with a talented team of people to develop and deliver interactive projects worldwide. The studio comprises of an experienced team of architects, engineers, industrial designers and computational designers as well as specialists in electronics, programming and project management.
