Doodling Through Life

BY BECKI CHAN
@ VOL 28 ON JAN 21, 2014

Drawing is a conduit that carries thoughts and ideas into reality. Rather than describing things as they are, freehand drawing can describe them as they are thought of and remembered. As an artist and a designer, Becki Chan shares her thoughts about doodling. She demonstrates how ideas and inspiration come from everything and everywhere, and how her approach to drawing applies them to a design process.

Drawing Inspiration

BY ADAM LANMAN
@ VOL 4 ON OCT 29, 2015

"I imagine ... how the mechanical world and the natural world might merge together."

In Drawing Inspiration from PechaKucha Night Oklahoma City Vol. 4, Adam Lanman shares his drawings and explains how he can imagine the natural world functioning in mechanical ways. Throughout years of studying the poetics of the built environment, Lanman has created a massive collection of drawings, methods and subjects. Lanman’s presentation illuminates a series of works exploring the space between fine art and applied art. With his artistic pursuits, Lanman hopes to renew public interest in the mundanity of surroundings that they take for granted while keeping in mind a simple but powerful thesis: if we want to change the places we live, we must first change the way we see.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Monday, August, 15th 2016.

Evolution of an "Artist"

BY ANTHONY DIMAGGIO
@ VOL 16 ON MAR 28, 2019

Anthony "Scooter" DiMaggio was born and raised here in Michigan but has lived half his life in New York City. Naturally, he combines a homespun mid-western practicality with a more global and holistic sensibility. As a visual artist, he moved quickly from drawing, to painting, to sculpture, then on to wacky invention. After graduate school, he reluctantly moved into the real world and among other things; enjoyed life as a bartender, helped to start a custom made bobblehead business, and began to seriously confront the age-old existential ponderings that yearn for spiritual enlightenment. Today, he expands this evolution with fresh intention and personality to share his brand of humor and awareness through newer features and formats.
