Winter – not to mention life – can knock us all down sometimes. But let’s not lose hope, because as the Chumbawamba song goes, you (or the weather) “are never gonna keep me down.” Volume 15 of the popular Pecha Kucha Penticton speaker series – Hit Your Stride – features a collection of tub-thumpers, space lovers, performers and more prime examples of Pentictonites who are getting up and out there to march to the beat of their own drum.
An award winning film director who left Vancouver, lured by our Okanagan orchards? Got one. A vibrational therapist and holistic chef teaching people to work with the healing powers of food? You betcha. The woman who lead NASA’s educational program for 13 years and convinced astronauts to read children bedtime stories from space? We landed her. And that’s just for starters, with more than a dozen speakers lined up for this fabulous evening:
Kristine Lee Shepherd
Japanese for “chit-chat,” PechaKucha originated in Tokyo in 2003 and has since grown into an international speaker series with events in more than 1,000 cities worldwide. Based on a simple format - 20 images x 20 seconds - presenters each get just 6 minutes and 40 seconds to share their story in an engaging and fast-paced slideshow format.
Held four times a year in Penticton, these regularly sold-out not-for-profit happenings bring together a diverse of range of Okanagan thinkers, doers and storytellers who can inspire us all to get back up again.
