PechaKucha Miami teams up with Miami Design District and AIGA Miami to explore the theme of typography. Type bombards our daily life in a way that is inescapable. From the exquisite to the mundane, the bold and the beautiful, type plays a very important role in our lives because what we see is almost as important as what we read. Typography, the art and technique of arranging letters in order to make language visible, is a professional field all its own. Interestingly, typography is something that most of us experience creating digital communications by selecting type style, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), tracking (adjusting the spaces between groups of letters, and kerning (the space between pairs of letters). The field of typography has come a long way from the moveable press in the 11th-century, mechanical printing press in the 15th-century, and digital computer in the 1980s.
