For this week's City Focus, we lend our gaze to "The City of Eternal Spring", Kunming, located in the Yunnan Province in southwest China. Home to over 6.5 million people and a melting pot of 26 indigenous nationalities, the city has established itself as the largest in the province and has flourished as the political, economic and cultural hub of the area. The nickname of the city comes from the year-round moderate climate that stays roughly between 8.9-20.3 degrees Celcius. However, the weather is far from the only thing that makes Kunming such an attractive destination. Spectacles such as the Stone Forrest, Dianchi Lake, Jiuxiang Scenic Area, and Western Hill can all be found within the folds of the city, and provide beautiful sights to anyone experiencing them. Beyond the sights, the intermingling but unchanging cultures of the different nationalities bring to fruition very unique customs and fun traditions like the Torch Festival or the Huashan Festival, where these groups can showcase their contrasting yet similar styles.
Adding to those opportunities, the city is hosting their Vol. 1 event on the 26th of July, it is surely not something anyone should want to miss! Best of luck to all of our friends in Kunming!
