Featured Presentation

Two dimensional art often occurs through a process of discovery combined with release. Finding the perfect color, tone and spatial composition is key to expressing thoughts and ideas in a way that can be felt by others. Olivia Stark is dedicated to her work in this way and it shows through her abstract paintings which are filled with color, poise and clarity. She walks us through recent works that draw directly from her personal experiences and emotional processing of the world around us.

We take for granted so much of how our world seemlessly operates from computer to phone to tablet. The facility with which we navigate this world did not come easily and few people can describe that evolution better than Jeremiah Martin. Having worked for Zane Ray Group in Whitefish Montana for the better part of 20 years, Martin has seen the world of web morph from basic HTML to cross platform design. He describes the nuances of our modern interactive world with insight that only a seasoned web designer can provide.

@ VOL 7 ON APR 05, 2019

Collin Hamman never takes his time for granted and makes a point of using each moment as a possibility for inspration. His graphic design and illustrations are heavily influenced by his time spent in the wilderness of Montana where he sees constant opportunity for the next t-shirt, logo, or printed design work that may come his way. Being self-employed as an artist is never easy, but when you mix pleasure with work the way Collin does, you will always come away fulfilled.

City Focus: Kalispell

This weeks city focus is on Kalispell, Montana, the gorgeous valley with a secret key to Glacier National Park. Rich with Native American influence, Kalispell is directly translated in Salish to “flat land above the lake.” Kalispell is the home to beautiful wildlife, trails, and mountain ranges, all interwoven by strikingly blue lakes nestled between. The vast space of Kalispell is reflected among the open minds that are coming to speak at PechaKucha Night Kalispell Vol. 5. Hope to see you there!

About the City's Organizers

  • Ben Oblas

I have been a woodworker for the past 12 years, designing and building custom furniture and cabinetry. After obtaining a degree in graphic design from Loyola Marymount University, I sought to transition my design experience to woodworking through traditional apprenticeship training. Since that time I have shown work in galleries throughout the region including the Northwest Gallery of Fine Woodworking in Seattle and Gallery One in Ellensburg. I am native to Washington state but I call Montana home.

  • Zana Faulkner

Native Montanan, but a city dweller for 20 years. Happy to be back in the mountains and on trails, exploring and finding trouble.

  • Elma Giavases

I'm an art director at a marketing and graphic design agency in northwest Montana. And a mom. And a community activist. And a drinker of cocktails. And beer.

  • Jacob Thomas

Jacob Thomas, a native Detroiter, currently serves as the Executive Director of the Museum at Central School in Kalispell. He first moved to Montana on a temporary basis in 2008, and promptly spent the next nine years figuring out how to return for good. On the rare occasion when he gets to leave his office, Jacob enjoys hiking, biking, reading fantasy novels, and obsessing over Michigan Football.

  • April Vomfell

April Vomfell is a farmer, foodie, flower grower, writer and digital marketer. In 2015 she co-founded Flathead Farmworks. She is fascinated by ideas, plants and the beauty of northwest Montana.
