In 2013, Glasgow became the UK’s Future City Demonstrator, winning £24million to use new technologies to become a better city for the future. As part of the Future City Demonstrator projectStrathclyde University has created the City Observatory, a project to use Glasgow and other global cities as ‘living labs’ where we can collaborate to develop new understanding of cities, test new approaches to solving urban problems and accelerate innovation.

Part of what the City Observatory project does is promote collaboration with regards to issues related to Future Cities between many different groups, this Pecha Kucha will be an exploration of these themes and partnerships

Scott Porter. Scott’s thesis explores the concept of utilising the natural resources found on the Moon and Mars to construct buildings that could protect inhabitants from the harshest environments, as well as designing structures that are impossible on Earth.

Jonathan Charley is the Director of Cultural Studies in the Department of Architecture at the University of Strathclyde. He teaches and writes on the history of architecture and urban culture.!
