Nature Is My Country Club: Wilderness of Light

BY CHRISTOPHER CUDWORTH
@ VOL 2 ON FEB 29, 2016

While working on the foundations of his book, Nature Is My Country Club,Christopher Cudworth wanted to find a common denominator or symbol of wilderness that all people could access. He also wanted to give people a practical tool for accessing nature wherever they find themselves. As a writer and artist, naturalist and photographer, he arrived at the conclusion that light itself constitutes an untamed element. It is at once infinite and chaotic, untrammeled and vibrant. In other words, light reveals and releases within us feelings of both connection and freedom. And as light is found everywhere, and on all things, it serves as a method to get back in touch with the natural world, even if one is nowhere near what is traditionally called “wilderness.”

Matthew has a degree in journalism and worked as a reporter and editor for several newspapers, before entering the finance industry as a technical writer, where he’s worked for the past six years. He is also about to begin a creative writing Masters of Fine Arts program at Sierra Nevada College, which will keep him busy.

Matthew moved to Sioux Falls last August. He was previously living in Tampa, Florida, and though he misses the beaches and tropical weather, Tampa didn’t have the heart he has found in Sioux Falls. He is thrilled to be a part of this vibrant community.
