Connection Through Improvisation

@ VOL 4 ON MAY 03, 2018

In the summer of 2017, Lara Mitofsky Neuss attended an Improvisation Workshop at Orford Musique in Canada taught by Swedish Percussionist Anders Ästrand. This workshop led to a recent performance and educational tour in Sweden. Her presentation focuses on her growth and connection both in performance and pedagogy related to connecting with herself and with students through improvisation. She takes the audience on a journey that she experienced while learning improvisation. She became more connected and open as she allowed herself to freely improvise without judgement. This growth has now allowed her to perform and teach improvisation around the world, sharing her experience with others.

Those are the reasons why Lucas Casarez thought he had no other choice. He discusses why Family, Values, and Love of Possibilities has propelled him to living a life that he loves.

How I have connected with Fort Collins Community

@ VOL 4 ON MAY 03, 2018

The mission here goes way beyond photography. Dewey Chapman is here to change perspective. Sometimes that requires a nudge. Other times it’s plate tectonics and you’re going to want to hold on to something. Whichever approach we take, Dewey's ambition in every project is affect change — to be the hammer that shapes reality. After all, photograph is a verb. That means action. Here is how he came to and joined the Fort Collins Community.

Music Heals and Here’s Why

@ VOL 4 ON MAY 03, 2018

her am going to show how Music made me a pioneer for women. She is a business owner. Single. Doing it all. She can and does ask for help. But most people, especially women don't understand that she generally pays for everything, she takes care of everything, she run it all and she practice everyone's homework. They are used to having partner to help them so they think she has one. No, she doesn't. No trust fund, no paychecks for 9 out 10 years so far of the studio. She is a rarity, but an upcoming commonality as the women of today find their own way and are their true selves, Thus, they are gifts to their beloveds, not postage due.

A Life Diverted: How Chance Changed Everything

@ VOL 4 ON MAY 03, 2018

Jim Steinborn arrived at Colorado State University in mid January 1984 as a sophomore transfer student in Computer Science. Three weeks later, a chance opening of the school newspaper set his life on a completely different path. There on page 10 was a photo of the university's pipe organ. He was fascinated that CSU would even have a pipe organ, and wanted to know more. Professor Robert Cavarra proved to be a warm and hospitable mentor who encouraged his interest - even though he had no musical background. After earning a Minor in Music, along with my BS in Computer Science, he helped Jim enter an apprenticeship with a pipe organ builder in 1987. Six years later, he went off on his own, first doing maintenance and tuning on the side of computer IT day job. Eventually, Jim became a full-time organbuilder and technician, Mostly, he does tuning and maintenance, but also service work for other firms, and offer freelance help to other organbuilders who are doing significant jobs in Colorado. This presentation discusses of some history, a brief story of how Jim became an organbuilder, and a pictorial survey of some of the projects he's been involved with.
