Pecha Kucha Night Dundee, hosted by Creative Dundee, is a special night out, which now takes place in over 1,100 cities around the world. Dundee hosts the UK’s largest PKN and we’re excited to be at The Caird Hall for the first time, during Dundee Design Festival 2019!

It’s a simple quick-fire format – speakers show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. Each person chooses their own topic – their work, their loves, hobbies or holidays. The night is a great way for people to meet and hear inspiring activities happening locally across Dundee and beyond. Always diverse and entertaining, there is something for everyone at this event which started in Tokyo in 2003 and has now grown into a global phenomenon!

Creative Dundee supports creative talent to base, grow and sustain their practice in and around Dundee, by connecting and amplifying the city’s creativity. Find out more and watch all previous talks: creativedundee.com

A huge thanks to Fraser Robertson for the incredible PKN artwork. Check out more from him here.

More speakers will be announced shortly!

He came to prominence as a member of the Dundee’s finest pop trio Danny Wilson and he has been a member of Simple Minds since 2010. He has composed and produced music for numerous game soundtracks including Earthworm Jim 3D, Enter the Matrix, Shrek 3, Amplitude and Quarrel. Suzanne Zeedyk is a research scientist and developmental psychologist fascinated by babies’ innate ability to connect with other people.  In 2011, she stepped away from a 20-year academic career at the University of Dundee with the goal of helping the public to share in her fascination.  If emotional connection shapes our health, our happiness and our very biology, that means we need to put relationships at the heart of our communities and our politics.  In the last 8 years, Suzanne has spoken to over 50,000 people, along the way emerging as one of the leading voices in the grassroots movement for Scotland to become an ACE-Aware Nation.  She’ll tell us why she thinks this vision is an idea whose time has come — and why she truly believes that Scotland has a chance to put the power of compassion on the global map. @suzannezeedyk

Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club has gone from strength to strength in the six years after our formation as a Wheelchair Rugby League Club winning many awards for the club and participants during 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 – with the club ethos of #allaboutability at the core. The club has received support from many quarters since 2013 and this has been invaluable and has ensured that we have seen the club further grow and expand the provision of the clubs core sports into Rugby League, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton and Curling. In addition, the club has provided opportunity for children and adults with disabilities in Archery, Golf and Para Skiing. @DundeeDragons

Thomas Maile is a Pecha Kucha organizer in the city of Aalen situated in the southern part of Germany. In his job as a police officer, he learnt how art and good design can help to bring messages, helpful tips and information to people in such a way that there is a chance that they will be followed and implemented. His job brought him to children’s theatre and Powerpoint and in an effort to give interesting and exciting lectures he has come across Pecha Kucha. His work has been awarded several prizes by various organizations. @mailthom

Annie Marrs is the Lead Officer for Dundee’s UNESCO City of Design. Originally from the Highlands with Aussie blood, vast landscapes and big, big skies have a huge influence over her. A lover of the weather, she’s obsessed with all things colourful. So it is fitting that Marrs Green is the World’s Favourite Colour. But what’s the true story and inspiration behind the colour?  So, once and for all Annie will answer the most burning of all questions about the colour that carries her name – is it blue or is it green? @anniemarrs

Darryl Gaffney du Plooy – Hey I am Darryl I do a few different things working with people in Dundee that I will tell yi aboot but what I really want to share with you are my hopes for Dundee, the Emerging Dundee.  Being a UNESCO City of Design and coolest city in Scotland is a great restart but, does it matter if the benefits aren’t felt by those who need it most? I will suggest a couple of ideas that could create deeper dialogue and foster wider optimism about the about the potential from redeveloping Dundee. @DDuPlooy

Dougie Lonie Dundee-born Dougie is a Senior Consultant at BOP Consulting, one of the leading research and strategy organisations working in the creative industries globally. Dougie’s work focuses on how cultural policy is linked to broader social agendas including, health and wellbeing, education and sustainable development. He’s recently worked on these topics with Creative Scotland, British Council, Arts Council England, Goethe Institut and UNESCO. Based in Barcelona, and a proud ‘Citizen of Everywhere’, Dougie is passionate about exploring how creativity and cultural participation is linked to positive human and environmental development, as well as understanding how forms of culture (old and new) can open up dialogue and improve intercultural cooperation.

Siôn Parkinson is an artist based in Dundee. Siôn uses singing in his art, often working with other artists, musicians and community choirs to create absurdist musical performances, which he presents in galleries and venues. He studied BA sculpture at Central Saint Martins and MA Fine Art at The Slade. He is currently studying for a practice-led PhD at the University of Leeds exploring a cappella singing and contemporary art performance. Alongside his art practice, for over a decade Siôn has worked as an independent curator and producer, collaborating on projects with: Art Angel, Cape Farewell, ICA (all London), ATLAS Arts (Isle of Skye), Reid Gallery (Glasgow), and The McManus Galleries & Museum (Dundee). He helped set up Dundee Design Festival in 2016. Since 2018, he runs Tilde Arts, a curatorial practice based in Dundee.
