To welcome in Coventry's City of City of Culture Bid, Pecha Kucha runs with the title My City Of Culture.

Some of tonight's speakers will be talking about their development ideas for projects commissioned by the City Arcadia project, but others are more personal reflections on what the words 'City of Culture' conjure up.

Join us at City Arcadia (Coventry Artspace's project gallery in City Arcade) for an evening of fast paced talks, with bar provided by The Tin.

@ VOL 26 ON JUL 05, 2016

In this talk inspired by his City Arcadia micro-commission, Artist and Poet Adam Steiner considers how, as an artist, you can make an Arcadia of Coventry. He posits the theory that this might be your duty as an artist, but also perhaps as a citizen. Describing his process and project proposals, Adam offers us a way to look differently at the city.

Small Scale City Skirt

@ VOL 26 ON JUL 05, 2016

In Small Scale City Skirt from PechaKucha Night Coventry Vol. 26, Textile Artist Julia O'Connell talks about taking time to look carefully at details. She collects these beautiful 'micro moments', which she views as everyday presents, and uses them to layer and stitch into her textile work. Here she talks about her commission for the City Arcadia project, where she is working up her Small Scale City Skirt as a way of making the city wearable.

How (& Why) to DIY Live Music Gigs

@ VOL 26 ON JUL 05, 2016

In Coventry Music DIY from PechaKucha Night Coventry Vol. 26, Steve Weir coins the phrase "a Goldilocks City" to describe Coventry (not too big, not too small, just right) and goes on to describe how this makes it just about the perfect place to put on DIY music gigs. He also throws in a few top tips on how to choose venues (clue: make sure there's booze, toilets and friendly management)

Looking for a National Park

@ VOL 26 ON JUL 05, 2016

Artists partnership Haworth Hayhoe like to celebrate overlooked patches of land in urban settings by constructing National Parks in them. In Looking for a National Park from PechaKucha Night Coventry Vol. 26, the artists talk about their commission for City Arcadia, which constructs a National Park in Coventry, complete with canyon, coal seam and river teeming with un-noticed flora and fauna. They encourage us to look afresh at the spaces we so often overlook, and explore what status and pride of place a label like 'National Park' confers.

High Rise Godiva

@ VOL 26 ON JUL 05, 2016

Adrian Baynes is an artist and architect who has been creating buildings, interiors, products & artwork since 1983. He prides himself on his playful creativity - and to be honest, he has a slight Lady Godiva obsession! In this talk, about his City Arcadia micro-commission he describes his proposal for a citizen's scissor-lift to enable us all to get up close and personal with Lady Godiva and other high-up public artwork around the city.
