Campaigning for President Barack Obama

PRESENTED ON MAR 05, 2013
IN CHICAGO @ VOL 25

"The pride I felt for the rest of the day was unbelievable. We knew we were doing was right and strong and true."

In Campaigning for President Barack Obama from PechaKucha Night Chicago, Vol. 25, campaign design team. project manager Traci Wiletalks about her experience working on one of the most impassioned, innovative, and truly historical presidential campaigns in US history. She gives details full of humor, passion, and inspiration about her experiences such as many of the long nights of stress, eating and drinking (bourbon) in a noisy and smelly office. However, the rewards are repaid with grateful words and a hug by President Obama himself.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on July 14th, 2015.

Designing Obama

BY SCOTT THOMAS
@ VOL 2 ON JAN 30, 2010

When Scott Thomas first met Barack Obama in 2007, the junior senator's web presence was suffering from a lack of consistency; there were, as he says, "37 different typefaces", and, about "416 different colors of blue" could be found throughout the site.

In his presentation, Scott takes us through the process of not only designing a political campaign, but changing the way politics are played in the 21st century.

He speaks on the power the web has to shrink our world; how far-away issues become our own when viewing and interacting with people across the country, around the globe. For the first time in American history we had a candidate addressing the people through live-streamed video rather than radio or television.

"Presentation of the Day" on February 22, 2013.

The Politics of Type

BY CARIMA EL-BEHAIRY
@ VOL 15 ON FEB 04, 2016

"Typography influences every day decisions, perceptions and opinions, so why would it not influence the most important decision a nation makes – electing a leader?"

In The Politics of Type from PechaKucha Night Buffalo Vol. 15, partner of Buffalo-based P22 Type Foundry, Inc., Carima El-Bahairy breaks down the relationship between political campaign typography and campaign results.
