In The Problem with Selfies, from Christchurch Vol. 23, oral historian Rosemary Baird explains how selfies are useless to historians, depriving images of context or including the everyday, transient, impermanent aspects of history. She admits that in the world of social media, we're over focussed on presenting on an image of ourselves that is leisured, polished, enviable, ignoring what might seem mundane, yet the very things that offer the context that can transport us to other worlds.
